Context
The injection-molding of thermoplastics allows the production of low-cost and high-volume parts. In order to respect the drastic specifications, it is preferable to carry out the conformity control of one hundred percent of the parts. The TheEye system measures the quality of the plastic parts as soon as they leave the mould of the injection moulding machine. This system is developed in the SYMME laboratory of the University of Savoie Mont Blanc.
Technology
The TheEye system performs non-conventional thermal and polarimetric imaging on hot parts, right out of the mold. The measurement is carried out in less than ten seconds. The measurement data is analyzed by a Deep Learning network to infer part conformity.
The quality model is built by learning from human expertise as new parts are produced.
Advantages
The TheEye system meets the need for hundred percent quality control of plastic parts right out of the mold while they are still hot.
State of progress
A working prototype of the TheEye system has been evaluated in industrial trials.
The design of the final product is in progress and the system is in the industrial validation phase.
Applications
The user of the TheEye system simplifies his control process by integrating it into the industrial workflow. A control card is generated for each part, which raises the level of satisfaction of the end customer.
