Context

Medical X-ray imaging is limited to hard tissue. The technology developed in this project will make it possible for the first time to see all the different tissues. The ambition of the arXimed project is to create the first prototype dental scanner (CBCT) to include this technology.

Technology

The technology used by arXimed is based on the acquisition of new X-ray image modalities called “Phase Contrast” and “Dark-Field”. These images are obtained by inserting a patented membrane into a conventional device.

Advantages

ArXimed makes it possible to see all the tissues of the mouth without changing the practitioner's habits or the patient's comfort. For the first time, bones, nerves, tendons and gums can be distinguished in a single image.

State of progress

The project is supported by a patent describing a modulator for X-ray imaging. The technology has already been adapted and commercialized for nanomaterial characterization and metrology applications.

Applications

The technology will enable better diagnosis of dental cracks, as well as early diagnosis of periodontitis, among other benefits.
