Context
Portable biosensors (WBS) are gaining attention for their ability to provide continuous and real-time physiological information through non-invasive measurements of biochemical markers in biofluids such as sweat. However, their limited lifespan, due to sensor performance drift, hinders their integration into devices like smartwatches or smartphones. The SmartPatch Health project addresses this issue by developing self-calibrating electrochemical biosensors capable of operating for nearly a year without external calibration, thanks to improved enzyme stability and the integration of machine learning techniques to correct sensor drift.
Technology
SmartPatch Health combines two innovative strategies: improving enzyme stability for accurate detection and a signal acquisition and processing method integrating artificial intelligence (machine learning) to correct the natural drift of sensors. The device collects and analyzes sweat through a microfluidic network and electrochemical biosensors.
Advantages
SmartPatch Health provides continuous and non-invasive monitoring of key biomarkers (glucose, lactate, uric acid, cortisol) over several months without the need for calibration. This ensures increased reliability and longevity, meeting the requirements of users and the market.
State of progress
The SmartPatch Health project is in an advanced stage of development, with a first demonstrator planned for the end of maturation. |
Applications
SmartPatch Health finds major applications in high-level sports, well-being, and health. For athletes, it optimizes performance and recovery by monitoring lactate in real-time, while helping to prevent injuries. Additionally, monitoring glucose and uric acid allows for precise tracking of available energy and hydration status, contributing to adjusting training and recovery. For well-being, SmartPatch Health helps control energy levels, hydration, and stress, thereby promoting healthy habits.
