Context
The performance improvement in power electronics is a major issue for the global reduction of energy consumption. The development of new materials with remarkable properties takes part of this effort. In this list of materials, Diamond is its master with exceptional properties.
Technology
We have developed the growth of diamond layers (on diamond substrate) for 30 years. Our know-how enables us to control the doping and the thicknesses of material with a unique precision and quality. Today, we manage to grow diamond at the state of the art.
Advantages
Currently, diamond involves an important investment and is in competition with other materials (SiC and GaN). However, the expected performances are better allowing to company working in power conversion a net size reduction of the component, and a race to high voltage and high current.
State of progress
We have the know-how to perform the diamond layers. We also developed process to use our layers as active layer in Schottky diode or MOS transistor. Two patents were deposited on these topics.
Applications
Diamond layers can be used in various fields such as biological sensor, cryptology..., but we have focused our work on power electronic. We bet that diamond will be the next material in this domain.
