Context
Alzheimer's disease is the most common neurodegenerative disorder in the world, with more than 1.3 million patients in France and a significant global societal cost. However, diagnosis still relies on invasive or expensive methods, often performed too late.
Technology
The FECALZ project offers the first non-invasive, accessible, and reproducible test based on the reliable measurement of biomarkers in stool: β-amyloid peptides, Tau proteins, as well as markers of inflammation and synaptotoxicity.
Advantages
Very early detection from the asymptomatic phase
Generation of a clinical score for disease stratification and therapeutic follow-up
Simple, fast, inexpensive test that can be deployed on a large scale
State of progress
FECALZ technology has demonstrated its proof of concept in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease: fecal biomarkers are detectable before the onset of cognitive symptoms. A pilot clinical study is currently underway to validate this innovative approach in humans.
Applications
Diagnostic testing and precision medicine
Biomarkers for clinical trials
