Context
Various everyday products (eg . perfumes) are fabricated through a micro-encapsulation of an active substance that is further released upon a desired conditions. The design and fabrication of the microcapsules is however often a tedious process in by lack of appropriate characterization tools.
Technology
RheoSurf allows through small deformations of capsules the quantitative, precise and fully automated characterisation of their mechanical properties in terms of real physical values.
Advantages
- Fully automated system
- High throughput
- Statistical mapping and analysis of mechanical properties within a single sample
- Scalable and adaptable system for specific industrial or environmental needs
State of progress
- The prototype is currently beeing used for the soft matter research
- Integral system including the software for image treatment, statistical analysis and device drivers
Applications
- Quality control and quantification of mechanical properties of microcapsules at a production line
- Assist at finding appropriate solutions for encapsulation
